NATIONAL HYDROPOWER ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES MATTHEW ALLEN AS NEW DIRECTOR OF LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS
Washington, D.C. (April 27, 2023) – The National Hydropower Association (NHA) announced today the appointment of Matthew Allen as its new Director of Legislative Affairs. In this role, he will be responsible for leading the association’s legislative efforts to promote the advancement of hydropower and marine energy at the federal level.
With over a decade of experience in climate, clean energy, and science policy, Matthew brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to NHA. Prior to joining NHA, he worked in government relations at the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research. In addition to passing legislation into law, Allen helped to shepherd nearly $1 billion in federal water infrastructure projects while spending almost seven years working for Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO). Matthew also holds a Masters of Science in Energy Policy and Climate from Johns Hopkins University.

The National Hydropower Association (NHA) is a nonprofit association dedicated exclusively to promoting the growth of clean, renewable hydropower and marine energy. The hydropower industry provides 31 percent of the nation’s renewable generation and 6 percent of overall electricity generation. In addition, pumped storage projects provide the majority of energy storage in the United States, making hydropower a critical resource to integrate increasing amounts of variable energy sources into America’s electricity system.
