Meeting Location & Accommodations
The meeting will take place at the Ted Ferry Civic Center.
NHA has negotiated a rate of $195 for attendees at The Landing, which is 2.5 miles/8 minutes by car from the meeting venue. To book your room, call 800-428-8304 or 907-225-5166 and ask for the National Hydropower Association group rate.

*In the event that we are not able to tour the Whitman Powerhouse, KPU has offered Ketchikan Powerhouse as a backup.
Tour Information
Basic Information
Ketchikan Public Utilities will host a tour of Whitman Lake Powerhouse in the morning on August 16. In the event that we cannot tour Whitman Lake, KPU has offered Ketchikan Powerhouse as a back up.
NHA will provide transportation to and from the tour, departing from The Landing Hotel. The tour will have a 25 person max capacity.
The tour is included in registration for the 2022 Alaska Regional Meeting. If you have already registered for the event and would like to add the tour, please contact Marycella Dumlao at marycella@hydro.org.
About Ketchikan Public Utilities (KPU)
KPU was created in 1932 when the City of Ketchikan purchased the Citizen’s Light and Power Company, which first started delivering power to Ketchikan in 1903. KPU is owned by the citizens of Ketchikan and makes every effort to be responsive to the needs and desires of the community. KPU Is a municipally-owned, not for profit public utilities company. Rates and rate changes are all proposed and voted on by the City Council, with available sessions for public comment before they are finalized.
Whitman Lake Hydroelectric Project
Installation a 4.6 MW hydroelectric dam on the existing non-powered dam at Whitman Lake to provide power to the communities of Ketchikan, Petersburg, and Wrangell. The project produces 16,000 MWH/year. The project also included replacement of a penstock from the Whitman Lake Hatchery and creating a diversion from Achilles Creek to Whitman Lake.

The Alaska Power Association (APA) Annual Meeting is the premier conference for Alaska’s electric utilities. Featuring informative presentations, networking opportunities, and collaborative meetings, the conference, taking place in Ketchikan on August 16-19, is designed to continue advancing the industry that powers the Last Frontier.

The Salmon Capital of the World
Ketchikan, Alaska, is truly the beginning of the last frontier.
