History & Culture
Fun fact: The Baltimore Ravens were named for Edgar Allen Poe’s famous poem, “The Raven.” Not only did Edgar Allen Poe call Baltimore home, he is also buried at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Baltimore. You can explore his home and more here.
For Joan Mitchell fans: At the Baltimore Museum of Art, a comprehensive exhibition follows the career of the internationally renowned artist who attained critical acclaim and success in the male-dominated art circles of 1950s New York, then spent nearly four decades in France creating breathtaking abstract paintings that evoke landscapes, memories, poetry and music.
Learn more about United States history at an on-going exhibit at the Maryland Center for History and Culture. The Unfinished Revolution ties together the French and Indian War, the American Revolutionary War, the Quasi-War, and the War of 1812 as one connected narrative, exploring the effects these conflicts had on Maryland, and the political and economic growth of the state and the nation thereafter.
