The National Hydropower Association (NHA) is pleased to announce John Di Stasio, President of the Large Public Power Council (LPPC), will address attendees as part of NHA’s Waterpower Week in Washington D.C., which runs from March 13 – 15, 2024.
Di Stasio’s current work as President of the Large Public Power Council revolves around advocating in Washington D.C. on behalf of the United States’ largest public power systems. While at Waterpower Week, Di Stasio will moderate the “Direct Pay: Understanding the Opportunities and Challenges for Publicly Owned Hydropower” session on March 14, 2024. This session explores the opportunities direct pay offers to public power, the state of Treasury and IRS guidance on domestic content requirements, and how hydropower investments factor into public power resource planning.
Prior to his role at LPPC, Di Stasio spent 35 years working for Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), the nation’s sixth-largest public power utility. During his tenure as CEO Of SMUD (2008 – 2014), SMUD launched one of the largest smart grid projects in the country and maintained some of the lowest electric rates in California.
Additionally, Di Stasio is a member of the North American Electric Reliability Corporation’s Member Representatives Committee, as well as GridWise Alliance’s Grid Infrastructure Advisory Council. Mr. Di Stasio has also served as past president of both the Northwest Public Power Association and the California Municipal Utilities Association, as well as on the boards of the Business Council for Sustainable Energy and the American Public Power Association.
