Matthew Allen joined NHA in April 2023 as Director of Legislative Affairs. Prior to joining NHA, Matt worked at the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research, serving as UCAR’s Government Relations Manager and Interim Director of Government Relations, based in Washington, D.C. He focused on Earth system science and its nexus with policy formation on Capitol Hill, with a focus on water security and drought, as well as wildfire, extreme weather, and ocean science policy issues.
Prior to joining UCAR, Matt was a Senior Legislative Assistant for Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO), spending over 7 years on Capitol Hill, and covered her House Natural Resources Committee portfolio as well as science and technology issues. Matt also has his Master’s of Science in Energy Policy and Climate from Johns Hopkins University.
